Global Picklist

Global Picklist:

There are some scenario where we need to show the same picklist on multiple object. So Salesforce came up with something new called Global Picklist

To create global picklist:

Step 1: Goto -> Setup -> Create -> Picklist

Step 2: Create new picklist and add the picklist values you require.

Now we are going to use the gloabl picklist in other object

Step 1: Customize -> Lead -> Fields - New Field -> Picklist Type

Step 2: Here you can see the option "Use global picklist definition". On selecting it you can see a dropdown below it showing the list of global picklist available

 

Step 3: Select the global picklist from the dropdown and save the field.

This global picklist is similar to normal picklist. It is possible to show picklist values based on the record type too.

Note: This is feature is right now available in developer and sandboxes only since this is in final stage of testing. In order to get this feature you have to contact salesforce and join the Pilot Program
