Translation Workbench

What is translation workbench?

• The Translation Workbench lets you specify languages you want to translate, assign translators to languages, create translations for customizations you’ve made to your Salesforce organization, and override labels and translations from managed packages. 
• Everything from custom picklist values to custom fields can be translated so your global users can use all of Salesforce in their language.

To enable translation workbench:

From setup -> Quick search box -> Translations settings -> Enable

Now select the language and for users to be translated. 

Now click translate and start adding translations to the components. 

• Select the language
• Select the setup component that needs to be translated.
• Select the objects the components needs to be translated.
• Select the aspect of the component. eg: Field label, related list label, quick text etc. 

Some of the components can be translated:

• Custom Field
• Button and Link label
• Action
• Picklist value
• Record Types
• Validation Message errors.

There are few other components too that can be translated. 

Best Practices for the Translation Workbench:

• To make the Translation Workbench most effective, administrators should:
• Let translators know which languages they are responsible for translating.
• Notify all translators when new translated components are added to your organization.
• Advise users when customizing reports or list views to use filter criteria values in their personal language.

Now how to view the translations:

• Setup -> Quick box -> Users -> Edit the user -> Locale Settings
• Set the language for the user and save it. 

For Visualforce page:

If you want some of the text in the visualforce page to be translated

• Create a custom label
• Translate the label using the workbench.
• Use the custom label in the visualforce page in order to display based on the logged users language. 

Note: For translations to be setup, Manage Translations permission should be enabled by the System Administrator.
