Resource Absence in Field Service

In Field service the service resource enters the resource absence record to mark their holiday/unavailability for work. During schedule optimization, service resources aren’t assigned to appointments that conflict with their absences. 

For creating the resource absence:

  • Go to the field service app. 
  • Click on the Service Resource tab. 
  • Under the related list, look for the Absence object. 
  • Click on the New button and select the record type 
    • Break - It can be lunch, Meeting etc. 
    • Unavailability - Holiday, Sick Leave, Day off - Shift. 
  • Enter the start time and end time, the type of the absence and click on the save button. 
  • Resource absence can be created by the technician themselves and also the dispatcher handling the service resource. 
  • Resource absence can be created from the FSL mobile app too. 


For creating recurring resource absence:
  • From the absence related list, click on the Add recurring absence button. 
  • On the recurrence pattern, choose the recurring period(Dates, Weeks, Month, Years) and choose the relevant options. 
  • Choose the recurrence end date. 
  • For eg: to make the weekend as unavailability for the service resource, choose the Recurring period as Weeks, recurring frequency, recurrence days and choose the recurrence end date. 
  • This will create resource absence for the weekends till the choosen end date. 


To create resource absence for unavailability/break throughout the organization:
  • Install the AppExchange app - Field Service Holiday App
  • Go to the Field Service app from the App Launcher.
  • Click on the Service Holidays tab. 
  • Click on the New button. 
  •  Enter the Service Holiday Name, choose the service territory, start date and end date. 
  • Click on the save button.
  • This will create the resource absence for all the service part of that service territory.
